Quarter 4 learning targets
- Students are now writing Persuasive pieces - writing about their opinion and things they like and do not like. Students will try to convince people with their opinion and multiple reasons supporting why they like or do not like something.
- By the end of the quarter students are expected to:
- Write an opinion piece with a topic sentence, telling their opinion.
- Include 3 or more reasons why they feel this way.
- The pictures are detailed with multiple labels.
- Students close their writing by restating their opinion.
- Students consistently put spaces between words, add punctuation, and add all of the sounds in each word.

Our students give their opinions all the time. Opinion writing is the PERFECT way for students to think about their opinions and what they really like or don't like.

Quarter 3 Learning Targets
- Students have transitioned into Informational Writing - writing about things they know how to do. We call this How To Writing! Students will be writing about all of the things they know how to do like riding a bike, brushing their teeth, playing a game, and more.
- By the end of the quarter students are expected to:
- Write a How To book with a title.
- Include 4 pages with each steps. Each page has a sentence that uses the words First, Next, Then, and Last.
- The pictures for each step help explain the steps and include labels.
- Rainbow words should be spelled correctly and students are writing more sounds in words.
- Students are putting spaces in between each word and are beginning to add punctuation.
Fun Activities to do at home
Talk with your child about all the things they know how to do! Ask them to tell you each step with lots and lots of detail! Listen to your child and make sure they are using first, next, then, and last.

Quarter 2 Learning Targets
- Students are continuing to build their knowledge of Narrative Writing - writing about real life experiences. Students will use drawing, telling, and writing to tell their personal stories.
- By the end of the quarter students are expected to:
- Write stories with 3 or more pages.
- Include characters, setting, actions, and emotions.
- The pictures on each page show who was there, where they are, and what is happening.
- Include at least one written sentence. Rainbow words should be spelled correctly and some words are spelled with the correct sounds.
- Students will begin learning how to put spaces in between words and punctuation at the end.

Continue encouraging your child to write with the activities from Quarter 1. Labeling, making grocery lists, and drawing pictures will still help build strong writing skills.
Quarter 1 learning targets
- Students will be able to identify how to share the stories of their lives through narrative writing.
- Narrative Writing - writing about real life experiences. Students will use drawing, telling, and writing to tell their personal stories.
- Students will be able to describe people, places, things, and events with accuracy through oral retelling.
- Students will learn how to correctly write upper and lowercase letters.
- Asking and answering questions.
- Drawing and labeling pictures with details in color and neatness.

Most importantly, talk to your child and ask them questions about what they did at school, their favorite t.v. shows, or what kinds of games they play with their friends. Good writing always begins by telling a good story.
