quarter 2
- Examine the characteristics of day and night sky and how one changes into the other in a 24 hour cycle.
- Focus on the simple changes from night to day and day to night, as well as the main objects in the sky – the sun and moon.
- Understand that things move in different ways and that gravity affects objects.
Fun things to try at home
Take your child out at night to observe the night sky, the moon and how the moon changes. Have your child draw a picture of the moon each night for one month and observe how it changes.
After observing the moon over a period of time you can have your child use their drawings to create different pictures of the moon with Oreo cookies. This is a yummy and fun activity to get your child talking more about the night sky.
Talk about day and night at home. Discuss how the the sun doesn't really go away at night....the earth just rotates. You can even get creative with a flashlight or lamp and create your own model of how day and night happen. Please send pictures through Dojo so we can share your projects with the class. |
Quarter 1

Fun Things to Try at Home
Play the game “I spy” with your child using some of the vocabulary above. Ex. “I spy something heavy” or “I spy something made of metal”. When they guess what you spy, then it’s their turn to try. You can play at home, in the car, or even in the grocery store!
